Press Release: Susan Wild Stands With Teachers Striking in East Stroudsburg Today

09/11/2018

East Stroudsburg, PA (Sept. 11, 2018) — Today, teachers in East Stroudsburg continue their second day of strikes after negotiations fell through on union contract discussions. Teachers are striking for a pay raise, which they have not received in more than two years and to keep their health benefits intact. Susan Wild joined teachers in the East Stroudsburg school district today (see pictures below) to show her support and released the following statement:

“I stand with the teachers of East Stroudsburg because every working family deserves access to good wages and affordable health care. East Stroudsburg teachers are the lowest paid across all six school districts in Monroe and Pike counties. We must ensure that their wages reflect the value they provide to our children, to help ensure opportunity, mobility and success for the next generation of the 7th district. I implore the school board to accept a fair contract and award teachers the pay raise they deserve.”

Susan Wild was raised in a military family and is an experienced attorney who has spent almost 35 years advocating and negotiating for people in the greater Lehigh Valley. She supports college affordability, universal pre-school education, and investment in our teachers and public schools. She will fight for strong apprenticeship programs, fair teacher wages and will defend collective bargaining power.  She brings energy, passion, and a grounded sense of civic responsibility to fight for affordable healthcare and good jobs in the Lehigh Valley.

*Correction: East Stroudsburg teachers are the lowest paid across all six school districts in Monroe and Pike counties. A previous version stated they were the 3rd lowest paid.
