The Morning Call: Susan Wild takes early fundraising lead in Lehigh Valley congressional race

Democrat Susan Wild has a nearly 4-1 cash advantage over Republican Marty Nothstein in the nationally watched race to succeed former Lehigh Valley Congressman Charlie Dent, according to new fundraising reports.

Wild, an attorney and former city solicitor for Allentown, reported $700,000 on hand after raising $873,000 during the last three months. Nothstein had $178,000 at the end of June, after raising $240,000 since the beginning of April.

“I am humbled, encouraged, and inspired by the incredible momentum and energy of our campaign right out of the gate from our primary,” Wild said in a statement.

Asked about the fundraising reports, Nothstein, a former Olympic gold-medal winning cyclist, responded in a statement, saying he has “been in a lot of races and I know they’re not won in the first lap.”
